The mixed team made the short trip over to Oxford for our first away game of the season.
Both teams had issues recruiting ladies for the match, however we ended up with equal numbers of ladies on each side so all was well in the end.
With Niamh attempting to act like a responsible adult and working today (yes really!) it was left to myself to organise the team and give the team talk. Not wanting to deprive the team of the traditional mixed don't die message this was duly delivered along with the added message of "the Oxford captain is working in A&E and doesn't want to see any of us."
The game started brightly for Oxford as they scored a really quick first goal which set the tone for the rest of the match. Oxford had a very strong team and they used this to good effect except when they tackled their own player and kept us under pressure for most of the match.
This didn't mean it was all one-way traffic with Abingdon playing some fantastic hockey and moving the ball around the pitch to great effect to keep oxford honest and create some chances.
Hannah did score 2 goals from a couple of short corners in the second half, unfortunately both were disallowed for the same reason. (Too high for first strike.) But they deserve a mention as they were well taken efforts.
Xavi had an absolute blinder in goal and made numerous great saves throughout the game to keep the scoreline down.
Thanks to our supporters who made the short trip up to watch, in Emily's parent's case all the way from Devon!
Thanks to Peter, Paul (even if he did disallow Hannahs goal) and Trevor for umpiring
Next game is on the 23rd October away to Bicester
